This Washington, DC festival celebrates the groundbreaking composer Igor Stravinsky. Events include concerts, educational programs and an exhibition at Music Center at Strathmore as well as events at Georgetown University and the National Gallery.
  The Stravinsky Project at Strathmore is co-produced by Strathmore and post-classical ensemble.
 
Performers include:
 
- Alexander Toradze, George Vatchnadze, Genadi Zagor, Vakhtang Kodanashvili and Edisher Savitski, pianists;
 - The Washington Bach Consort Chorus

Concert: Stravinsky’s Russian Accent
 
Hear Stravinsky’s searing Les Noces, written for chorus, pianos and percussion, and the Russian folk wedding songs that inspired the piece; the D.C. premiere of “Danse Sacrale” from The Rite of Spring for 4 pianos and percussion, his explosive Concerto for Piano and Winds; and Symphonies for Wind Instruments, which inaugurated the neo-classical era.

Lecture/Recital: Interpreting Stravinsky
 
Immerse yourself in all things Stravinsky! Enjoy a guided tour of The Stravinsky Odyssey, an exhibition of photographs and filmed interview by Katya Chilingiri documenting Stravinsky’s odyssey from Russia to Europe to the U.S.; hear pianolist Rex Lawson in the American premiere of Stravinsky’s Les Noces in its final version for mechanical piano; and explore Stravinsky’s life and influences in a fascinating interactive lecture/concert which challenges Stravinsky’s strictures “against interpretation.”

Hear The Rite of Spring arranged for two pianos, the Washington-area premiere of Scherzo from Sonata in F sharp Minor, Tango, Piano Sonata, Concerto for Two Solo Pianos and an improvisation referencing each of the works.
